Swimming Regulations

February, 2005

 1.The Southern Swimming Carnival shall be conducted under the rules of the Amateur Swimming Association of Australia, except as stated. This swimming carnival will be a TWO START carnival.

2.For all underage events, competitors must be under the stipulated age on January 1st of that year. Age Groups are U13, U14, U15, U16 and Open

3. Schools may have two individual entries in each event and one relay team in each event. There will be a stated date for close of entries and no additional entries will be accepted after that date.Competitors may only compete in one age group with the exception of:

a) Where by necessity age groups are combined.

b) Where a particular event is not available in any age group a competitor may compete in the next higher age group where the event occurs.

4a. Girls: Points will be allocated according to the principle whereby if 9 Girls Schools compete for a trophy 1st place is allocated 18 points; 2nd place 17 points and so on in descending order.

 Relays count for one and a half times the points allocated for first place in an individual event and then drop by 3 points for each subsequent place.

 4b. Boys: Points will be allocated according to the principle whereby if 7 Boys Schools compete for a trophy 1st place is allocated 14 points; 2nd place 13 points and so on in descending order.

 Relays count for one and a half times the points allocated for first place in an individual event and then drop by 3 points for each subsequent place.

 5. Disqualifications: Where a competitor or school is disqualified, such disqualification shall not be announced. The school is to be notified of the reason for the disqualification through their teacher in charge, by an official.

 6. All protests must be lodged immediately, verbally, and then in writing with the Organising Secretary by the team manager either within 15 minutes of the conclusion of that particular event or within 15 minutes of being notified of a disqualification. The protest will be decided by the referee.

 7. Lanes will be rotated per event. A separate lane will be provided for each competitor. They must swim in the lane allotted to them in the program.

 8. Competitors' seating position will be rotated annually.

9. School coloured bathers and caps must be worn by all competitors. Breach of this regulation will result in disqualification. If a school is unable to uniform teams/individuals in accepted school bathers and caps the Chair of SSATIS is to be notified prior to the event. Organisers will then be notified.

10. There should be adequate lane ropes, handholds for backstroke starts and a false start rope.

 11. Where a school does not enter a competitor on the entry form the school will not compete in that event.

12. The order of events will be:

* 4 x 50m medley relay events youngest to oldest alternating male/female.

* 50m freestyle events youngest to oldest alternating male/female.

* 50m breastroke events youngest to oldest alternating male/female.

* 100m freestyle events youngest to oldest alternating male/female.

* 50m butterfly events youngest to oldest alternating male/female.

* 50m backstroke events youngest to oldest alternating male/female.

* 4 x 50m freestyle relay events youngest to oldest alternating male/female.

13. The computer scores will be accepted as the correct scores at the conclusion of the carnival.

14. All schools are to ensure that they have a computer in the school which has both an Email and Filemaker facility.(On the same machine)

15.The costs incurred by a schools organising this carnival will be met by SSATIS. Program production costs are for paper and "in-house" photocopying.

16. Swimming - The organising schools must: 1. Check access to exits, 2. Check evacuation procedure and 3. Confirm provision of lifeguards and their reponsibilities.
