Girls' Tennis Regulations

Qualifying Players for Finals

To qualify to play in a final a player must have played at least half of the roster matches played by the team contesting the final. In the event of "qualified" players being unable to play a replacement player can be drawn from a nominated list of replacements which has been forwarded to the Roster Secretary once finalists have been determined. This list to be on the pro-forma sheet designed for this purpose. Replacement players are not to be of a higher standard than the competition they are entering. Anomalies in the list of of replacement players will be forwarded to the S. SATIS Chairperson.

1.Matches shall be played under the rules recognised by the Australian Lawn Tennis Association except as hereinafter stated.

2.Players must wear tennis outfit or correct school sports uniform. 

3.Age groupings will be as follows:

1st Grade - should consist of the School's top seeded players.

2nd Grade.

3rd Grade

Year 10, Year 9, Year 8, Year 7

4.Teams can consist of up to five (5) players. Schools may register up to six (6) players for all teams, however only five (5) players may play on any given day.

5.The year 7 to 10 teams shall consist of three (3) players from the specified age group.

6 a) Matches shall consist of two doubles rubbers and four singles rubbers. The doubles to be played before the singles.

 b) i. Players in all tennis teams will be seeded. This seeded order will be forwarded to the Roster Secretary following completion of the third game of a roster. The doubles pairings are also seeded and forwarded to the Roster Secretary. These are not to be changed.
 unless a reserve is required. In this case, the reserve player takes No.4 position and all others move up - and play in seeded order with number 1 ranked player as best player.

ii.  If a school does not submit a team’s seeded order by the completion of the third round, the penalty will be loss of points for subsequent matches.

c) If a player plays below her seeded order, the games won by that player will be forfeited.

7.Duration of games - In all grades play first to six(6) games, no tie breaker and no two game advantage. That is, a player can win 6 - 5. Advantage is played on deuce points in all games.

8.The contest will be decided on rubbers. However, if rubbers are equal then the team with the most games will be declared the winner.

9.Weekday matches should begin as close to 4.00pm as possible. If a team is not complete by 4.30pm then it must forfeit. However, if three(3) arrive to play 1 doubles and 3 singles could be played i.e. other doubles and singles are forfeited.

10. a. Result sheets must be completed and signed by a representative of both schools. Results to be sent to the Roster Secretary. All First and Seconds score sheets should be faxed/sent to the roster secretary.

b.  In the event of a forfeit, the players are to be listed on the score sheet.

11.Each team is required to have an adult(staff member or parent) present for the duration of all matches.  Under SSATIS regulations, unless there is adequate supervision for each team then that team must forfeit.

13.WET WEATHER

 (i) In the event of wet weather, the decision to play or cancel overall will be made by the Roster Secretary.

 (ii) If the games are cancelled, the points are shared.

 (iii) In the event of wet weather and there is no overall cancellation of matches, the decision on whether to play will be left to the coaches of each team in a game.

14.MATCH TIMES

The time and day for matches in all grades will be determined prior to the commencement of each roster. Factors influencing this are teams entered, ground availability, placement of holidays and other interschool fixtures.

15.FINALS

Drawn Grand Final

a) Years 7-10 and 3rd Grade - the teams share the final.

b) For 1sts and 2nds the team on top of the ladder at the end of the roster shall be the winner.

Grand Final Venues

The best available venue should be used.

The higher placed team, at the conclusion of a roster of the teams contesting a Grand Final will select the venue for Grand Final.

16. POINTS ALLOCATION

Win = 2 Points + 1 point for each rubber won

Draw =1 Point + 1 point for each rubber won

Washout = 4 points NB - A washout equals a draw.

Loss - 1 Point

Forfeit = 8- 0

The maximum number of points awarded is 8.

17. CANCELLATIONS AND FORFEITS

Schools must notify the appropriate school of any forfeits by 12.00 noon of the roster day.

Cancellations due to inclement weather must be made as soon as possible.

18. FIRST AID AT VENUES

Each school is responsible for supplying each team with a first aid kit and cold pack.

19. ORGANISATION OF ROSTERS

For all sports semi finals will only be played when 2 full rounds cannot be completed.

If one full round is not completed a semi-final will be played.

Except where weather prevents play, in any roster there must be a minimum of 6 games for the roster to be declared valid.

If 10 or more teams are entered in any roster there shall be two (2) divisions. Where a school enters 2 or more teams in any roster one team must be nominated for Division 1.

A school may apply to SSATIS for entry into Div 2 if in fact that team would be totally out of its depth in Div 1.
Schools may, in the first instance, enter one team into a SSATIS 2nd Grade Roster. The Roster secretary may then call for additional teams which will be included on an equitable basis. This means that each school would have the opportunity to submit one extra team. Additional teams would be accepted on the same basis.

20. As stipulated in the LTAA rules of Team Tennis, coaching is allowed. A player may receive coaching from a coach who is sitting on the side of the court, by the net, when the player(s) change ends at the end of a game. No coaching is allowed at any other time during the game. No coaching is allowed at any time during a tie breaker

21. If a player plays below her seeded order, the games won by that player will be forfeited.
